TANKER TRAFFIC TOPIC FOR FORUM

Mon 28 Jun 2010

Oil and Water, a community forum to discuss supertanker traffic on the Pacific Coast and finding sustainable alternatives happens Tuesday (June 29) at the First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral Rd.

Hosted by Victoria MP Denise Savoie and Victoria-Swan Lake MLA and B.C. opposition environment critic Rob Fleming, the forum panel will include Dogwood Initiative executive director Will Horter and Sierra Club of B.C. director of campaigns and community engagement, Susan Howatt.

“We want to engage the public about protecting our coast from offshore drilling and supertanker traffic and reducing the risk oil poses to our environment," Fleming said.

"The public debate needs to be about what approach a resource-rich country like Canada should take for the oil and gas sector to transition us a cleaner, more efficient, low-carbon economy."

The forum runs from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, contact Savoie's office at 250-363-3600 or Fleming's office at 250-360-2023.
