We the undersigned citizens of Canada stand against the biological and social threat and commerce of industrial marine net‐cage feedlots using our global oceans.

The science is clear: these operations risk wild salmon populations by intensifying disease and deplete world fishery resources to make the feed. They privatize ocean spaces and threaten our sovereign rights to food security.

We call on the Government of Canada to take the appropriate measures to get open‐net aquaculture out of our federal waters.

A petition to ensure action on greenhouse gas pollution and energy efficiency with Bill C‐311
Whereas:

1. Prime Minister Stephen Harper refuses to make necessary investments in clean energy or get tough on big polluters;

I would like to take the opportunity to address some concerns recently raised regarding the decision by the Board of Internal Economy not to allow the Auditor General to audit the administration of the House of Commons.

I was one of the MPs who received - and accepted - a request from the Auditor-General more than a year ago to examine our operations. I'm proud of the work our office does and, given all the work we've accomplished on behalf of my constituents, I welcome more transparency.

Canada's chief of defence staff took the rare step yesterday of overturning a directive made by his top admiral to dock several ships and delay upgrades on others, many of them at CFB Esquimalt.

Last month, Vice-Admiral Dean McFadden, head of Canada's navy, ordered half of the country's maritime coastal defence vessels to be docked indefinitely and shelved upgrades and maintenance on many other ships.

Victoria's MPs say the Conservative government's recent flip-flop on cuts to the navy raises troubling questions about the future direction of the Canadian Forces.

"This whole confusion really speaks to how out of touch they are on a file that they claim is very important to them in terms of national security," said Denise Savoie, NDP MP for Victoria.
"The first thing to do, for us, is to get to the bottom of this."
